Vinyl Fiend
I like records.
Mike Garson demonstrates the many sounds of an M-Audio ProKeys 88 SX Stagepiano.
Mike Garson is one of the unsung heroes of the piano/keyboard. He has played with a number of great artists over the years including David Bowie and Nine Inch Nails just to name a few. I had the pleasure of seeing him twice in 1998 when he toured with Smashing Pumpkins. His haunting tones added much to the overall feel of the Pumpkins’ live show. I found this particular album at the Salvation Army a few days ago. Released in 1982, Jazzical is Garson’s 2nd solo effort and is just what the name says - a fusion of jazz and classical music. All I can say is that it’s pretty freakin’ cool. He is joined on the Mini-Moog Synthesizer by the great Chick Corea.
Lyle Lovett - covering “Flyin’ Shoes” by Townes Van Zandt in Brussels - 2009
Townes Van Zandt - “No Place to Fall” - Live at the Old Quarter
This is a recent indulgence purchase - Townes Van Zandt’s Flyin’ Shoes on 180 gram vinyl. This was a no-brainer.
Charlie Louvin - “Think I’ll Go Somewhere and Cry Myself to Sleep”
Charlie Louvin is the king of the murder ballads, but on this particular album he kills me with one heartbreaker of a tune after another.
Jerry Lee Lewis - “How’s My Ex Treating You?”
I found this today while thrifting. Anyone who knows me well knows that I snap up any and all Jerry Lee Lewis lps. He is my favorite recording artist of all time. I have almost all of these tracks on other albums but I can never resist an album by the “Killer,” especially on such an obscure label as “Buckboard Records.” How did they get the rights to these Sun cuts in the first place? Is this album even legal? Ah, the joy of collecting :)
